Happy Birthday to Me!
You may or may not have noticed I was on a bit of a haitus. How to explain? Still not sure...just that I could not drag myself to read or blog. Just could NOT. How some of you continue to blog, write, read, work, is beyond comprehension to me! I stand in awe of you and wonder just when it is you sleep.
For me, accomplishing the bare minimum was becoming a struggle. I would read, but the house would be in shambles, and I'd struggle to get the kids up in the mornings. I was dragging from one thing to another. Depressed? More than likely, but I still refuse to be on medication.
Anyhow, as it is my birthday, and last year my new blog was my present to myself, it is only befitting that my hiatus is now over.
I have a lot of books I intend to cover. If you are an author and sent your work to me for review, rest assured, I have not forgotten. If I was scheduled for a blog tour and failed to post on my allotted day, I will still review said book, but obviously am long overdue.
It is a new year, and with that comes the slew of resolutions we make, some of which are doomed from the start. Last year, I made about a dozen and one, and I know I didn't follow through with a single one. This year, I make one. One, so I won't forget. One, so I can't forget.
Stop half-assin' it.
If you're anything like me, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Too many of us skulk through life, doing less than we know that we are capable of, merely because we CAN. We don't HAVE to do X, the sun will rise regardless...
And the next morning, it does. And we put off tomorrow what we don't feel like doing today. Langston Hughes and his Dream Deferred comes to mind.
This last year, I was inspired by so many of you: writing novels; getting your blogs up and running; shedding light on important issues that most of us tend to ignore. And more and more I realized, the only limitation I have is myself.
I am my greatest naysayer.
So, on my birthday, I want to say thank you. Because all of you gave me the yearlong gift of inspiration. Because you got in my head, and when times were dark, I heard your voices calling out to me.
2012: The End of Half-Assin' it.
And, of course, the song I play for myself every year. I love Johnette Napolitano.
Happy Birthday to Me!
